Case History AES-HW2
Highlights: Looking
for alternatives to rising natural gas prices, the grower
learned of the available MSW. Because manual recycling
is performed the paper wastes are easily obtained. Because
the material will be received at moisture contents above
50% (dry), grinding will be performed followed by drying
using flue gas heat. Screening will be included to remove
any occasional non combustible.
Facility: Twenty Acre Commercial Greenhouse With Access
To MSW
(Paper & Cardboard)
Issue: Using two 500 bhp hot water boilers, 10
years old, static for 3 to 4 years. Assume re-energize cost of
NG boilers, retube, cleaning ($40,000), Annual NG Cost ~ $1,013,459,
Annual O&M ~ $5,200, Useful Life ~ 20 YRS,
Opportunity Biomass Fuel: MSW
(Paper & Cardboard)
Solution: Add one 450 bhp Modular
Hot Water Gasifier, delivering 16,000,000 btu/hr.
CAPX ~ $1,234,000, Annual NG Cost (backup) ~
$100,000, Annual O&M ~ $60,000, Useful Life
40 YRS. Retain one traditional boiler for backup
and peak loads.
Technologies: Grinder,
Screen, Flue Gas Dryer,
Uniconfort, Modular 3 Pass
Alternative Fuel Gasifier/Boiler.
Solution: The
grower utilizes a central plant for hot water production.
Using one 450 bhp alternative energy boiler, the central
plant will be modified. One of the two exisiting natural
gas boilers will remain for surge and emergency backup.
